Step 1: Preparation of the parts

  •     Plates preparation and wood selection.
  •     Guilloche-work and quenching of the spring.
  •     Manual adjustment of the wood slabs to the plates, the wood is brought back to the bolster level little by little, by machining it with a stone rotating at high speed, and checking regularly.
Step 2: Assembling the knife

  •     Installation of the spring between the 2 plates, riveting, and filing to avoid any protrusion that could hinder the placement of the wood.
  •     Screwing of the wood slabs on the plates and mounting of the blade.
  •     Preparation of the mechanism: adjustment of the blade and the spring, levelling of the bee.
Step 3: Turning

  •     First turning step: Coarse removal of the material by means of a coarse-grained belt (between 40 and 60).
  •     Second turning step: Obtaining the final shape of the knife, smoothing thanks to a medium grain band (100 to 180).

Step 4: Finishing touches

  •     Shepherd's Cross: Drilling of the holes of the cross and filling thanks to a stainless steel (or brass) rod of 1 mm diameter.
  •     Third turning stage: Levelling of the cross rods, smoothing and removal of the lines due to turning, in order to prepare for polishing.
  •     Polishing of the blade and bolsters with a cotton cloth coated with abrasive paste, polishing of the wood with a layer of varnish followed by a rubbing without abrasive paste, in order not to blacken the wood.
