In the tradition of Southern Aveyron table arts, the Laguiole butter knife from Coutellerie du Barry combines artisan craftsmanship with everyday use. Not a decorative piece — a simple, sturdy tool built to last. Each knife is assembled by hand in our Laguiole workshop, established in 1988. Nothing is outsourced.
From wood selection to final polishing, every step is carried out by our craftspeople. The handle is shaped from the wood you choose — acacia, olive, juniper, walnut, or any of the twenty other species available in our range. The stainless steel bolster is hand-fitted. The bee, emblem of the Laguiole knife, is hand-forged and integrated into the spring. The spring's file work is done by hand, one stroke at a time. No component comes from a standard off-the-shelf part.
This Laguiole butter knife fits naturally at a well-set table. It works as a daily-use piece or as a meaningful gift — retirement, wedding, housewarming. Offered alone or paired with a matching table knife for a cohesive set. For lovers of French craftsmanship who want their table set with objects that last, made a few kilometres from Laguiole, in a tradition that goes back to the 19th century.
Hand washing recommended. If worn or damaged, the knife can be repaired in our workshop. We offer sharpening, handle replacement, and full restoration. Lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.
