The 12 cm Laguiole pocket knife is the benchmark size for French folding knives. Well-balanced in hand, practical for everyday use, it works equally as a working knife or a table companion. In our workshop in Laguiole, Aveyron, we have been making it entirely by hand since 1988. Every piece is assembled, fitted and finished by our knifemaker — nothing is outsourced.

What sets this knife apart from mass production is full personalisation. You choose the handle material (horn, wood, carbon fibre, bone…), the blade steel (stainless 12C27, carbon X75, hand-forged or Damascus), the bolsters, the spring file-work pattern, and the plate decoration. The knifemaker adapts each component to your specification. The result is a unique knife, built for you.

100% French handcraft — around four hours per knife

The process begins with preparing the parts: selecting the handle, manually fitting the liners, hardening and hand-engraving the spring. Assembly follows: spring between the liners, riveting, fitting the blade, adjusting the blade-spring action, levelling the hand-forged bee. Shaping gives the handle its final form, from roughing to surface finish. Final steps include the shepherd's cross, polishing the blade, bolsters and handle material.

The bee, forged directly into the spring, is the hallmark of the authentic Laguiole. It is not added on or glued: it is part of the spring itself, as tradition requires.
