The Laguiole sommelier from Coutellerie du Barry is a fully functional service tool. Designed for wine service at table and in the cellar, it combines a helix corkscrew, foil-cutting blade, and cap lifter – in a balanced, pocket-sized format.
The handle is shaped from cade juniper, a wood of the Massif central plateau with distinct grain and tones ranging from golden brown to deep red. Each piece shows its own figure – no two are alike. This naturally resilient wood is worked by hand, without surface treatments that would mask the grain.
Like every knife and tool from our workshop, this sommelier is assembled piece by piece in Laguiole. Nothing is outsourced. Our craftsmen handle all four stages:
Preparation of the liners and selection of cade juniper. Spring shaping, side fitting, and riveting. Handle shaping (grit 40 to 180), blade and corkscrew adjustment. Polishing of the 12C27 stainless blade, bolster finishing, spring check, and hand-forged bee verification.
Allow 3 to 4 hours of work per piece. The result: a rigid, precise tool with no play between parts.
Blade: 12C27 Swedish stainless steel – sharp, easy to maintain
Bolsters: polished stainless steel
Handle: natural cade juniper, grained, warm tones
Spring: no file work – polished spring
Bee: hand-forged, integrated into the spring
Corkscrew: stainless steel helix
Cap lifter: integrated
Warranty: lifetime against manufacturing defects
This sommelier is aimed at wine lovers who appreciate fine tools as much as function. It works as a retirement gift, for a wine merchant, a restaurateur, or any admirer of French craftsmanship. The blade can be engraved at no extra cost – a discreet, lasting personalisation.
The Coutellerie du Barry table arts range offers matching pieces in olive wood, walnut, or horn for a coherent service set.
Wipe dry after use. Lightly oil the blade if stored for extended periods. In case of wear or breakage, return to the workshop for repair. Lifetime warranty covers manufacturing defects.
